To both classes,
It's been almost 2 weeks since the first day of school. How are you feeling?
I read this comment made on an online article 'parenting network', "Today's children are experiencing a lot more stress than the generations before them because the current society is fast-paced, competitive and full of pressure.". What do you think? Do you agree? Why or why not?

ReplyDeleteI spelt something wrongly. Sorry. I mean, I'm trying to say that we're more pampered. But yes, I agree. That's why you must give us less homework. Good idea right?
ReplyDeleteNicole, 5I
I agree with the phase. We children are on alot of stress by our parents and teachers. So, you should give us less homework, right?
ReplyDeleteyes, i absolutely agree. My stress level is rising fast to 100 000 000 000 000 and it's only the second week of school.
ReplyDeleteNot really. I think this year is not as stressful as last year, so far. I hope that the homework amount will remain the same throughout the year

ReplyDeleteYes,i agree with the article.I find this year much more stressful than last year.I think its partly because of the work my parents give me.By the way, where is everyone from 5G?
ReplyDeleteYes,i agree 100%!
ReplyDeleteThese days, people sell more assessment books and our parents buy them. Last time, books were sold at very cheap prices. Now, books can be sold at prices up to $20.They didn't use to sell exam papers. When our parents buy them we have to finish it.
All the things said above means more work and more stress
I agree. School is now very fast-paced and competitive. Personally, I feel very stressed out by schoolwork and preparing for major exams(SA1,SA2). Last year, I felt that schoolwork was just going by the curriculum and there were very little "out-of-the-box" activities. I also feel that marks should not be based solely on tests and exams, they should also be based on teamwork, group activities and projects. Our current society is based too much on marks.
ReplyDeleteYes, parents are buying assement books and past year papers, but because they believe that they will help us do well, as Singapore is so competitive nowadays. The best solution will be to abolish exams to minimise stress.

ReplyDeleteNowadays are so stressing. So much homework. So many tuition classes. I totally agree that it is so stressful, and i'm doing so much work everyday. Teachers should put the amount of homework to the minimum. Would not be so stressing then.
Urm...I also agree. If we are too stressed, we might fall ill anytime of our year. The teachers are really giving loads of homework! Some questions we might not know how to do then we ask our parents. Then they will complain then the teachers scold us. Then we go tell our parents... Don't you think this is a cycle? After reading some of your comments, I agree to all. If we are too stressed, we will not feel like coming to school because we have not finished our work.Because of that, we will fall ill, as I mentioned earlier. Soon, parents will complain to the teachers...
ReplyDeleteLots to say!:)
Yes,I totally agree.I'm so stressed because of the tution work and school work i have to do.Can you give us a little bit less homework to ease the stress?
ReplyDeleteI agree. I hope that the workload will decrease a bit.
ReplyDeleteYes I agree, because we have too much homework.
ReplyDeleteI agree that nowadays the students experience more stress than previous generations because, Singapore is developing. Therefore, we have double the homework than last time because we have to keep up with the competition and show our island's worth.
ReplyDeleteStudy shows that last generation, the PSLE standard is our current P4 standard. I think that we should ease ourselves by giving us less stress.
Less homework is better because we may get too worn out and result to silly actions
eg. committing suicide.
I'm Sherman from 5G, I'm sorry i forgot to indicate my name.
ReplyDeleteI acree, this year there is definitely more homework given from both school and tuition teachers

ReplyDeleteThis year is getting packed with stress and work so I think we might faint anytime.
ReplyDeleteSingaporean students are expected to do better nowadays because the world is more competitive. Doing more work this year is expected because we are older. Maybe I do not have too much extra work, so I do not feel too stressed at this moment.
ReplyDeleteI think I might get a heart-attact anytime-due to the workload!

ReplyDeleteDear Mrs Tay,
All that you said is true, children nowadays are more stressed than children last time learnt slower than children now. And we really must try harder to do our best. Yes I agree. Children nowadays learn much faster than children a long time ago. We have prove our parents tell us how much faster the syllabus is now than last time.
Hmm. Yes, it's alot more strssful, but not by English. Math is the one that takes up most of my VALUABLE time.. I like English.
ReplyDeleteJing Ying 5I
I agree. Parents sign their children up for so many tuitions. It is an unreasonable use of time and puts me under a lot of stress.
ReplyDeleteI agree totally. Nowadays we have loads of homework!
ReplyDeleteEach teacher gives us a lot of homework thinking that other teachers won't give any homework, so we will get a whole load of homework in the end. I think that the teachers should discuss about the amount of homework each gives per day.
ReplyDeleteoh yeah...my blog website is www.p5gdarrylong.blogspot.com.
ReplyDeletewait a minute... I accidentaly used my mum's account. so www.p5gdarrylong.blogspot.com is my blog website
ReplyDeleteTeachers should have mercy on us children. Every day, there is a load of HOMEWORK on my desk and I always feel like yelling when I FINALLY finish at ten o'clock. Really, shouldn't some discussion take place???
ReplyDeleteOH and by the way, I agree with JingYing.I like English too, it is one of VERY few subject which I enjoy. Math take up about 9999/10 000 of my time. Sometimes, it depends on the quality of our teachers. Hey! Maybe we can do elections for our form an subject teachers! Then nobody will be complaining anymore!!!
ReplyDeletewww.5ievaphoe.blogspot.com:D i agree children at our age is *popular* with stress example if ur parents have high expectations for you.Homework fills up ur diary. Lesser homework = lesser stress help us!
ReplyDeleteI don`t agree with it at all. More or less homework it dont really matter to me. As long I know what I am learning and doing in school, I`m fine. By the way my blogspot is http://5GRaysonSong.com. Thx.

ReplyDeleteAND I TOTALLY AGREE

ReplyDeletethis year there is too much stress just that parents sign us up for so many tution classes
ReplyDeletemy whole week is full!!!!

by the way my blogspot is
http://arvin-thepronnes.blogspot.com/
wow. actually i think giving us less hmwk isnt going to help. well, in a way it does. but still, if we r given less hmwk, then how r we going to cope with this super-fast paced world? so actually, the hmwk is helping us. BUT BUT BUT BUT,,, i think if we hv less enrichment, less tuition(which may be both costly n pointless, not to mention wasting time, and time is MONEY) and less hmwk(not THAT less, like cut down on, say...10%??). im not bothered much coz my usual sleeping time anyway is 11p.m. and i rest in the afternoon, then in the night wen my parents r home they can teach me instead of pondering ovr a question for ovr 1/2 an hr instead get it done in 15min(depends how challenging the question is).well. i typed alot. anyway, my point is, less hmwk is not neccesarily the way out to less stress(well, it kinda is, but nvm)

tinghao,i am over here
ReplyDeleteI agree that today's children are experiencing a lot more stress than the generations before us because the current society is fast-paced, competitive and full of pressure. Parent's expectations are also higher. Children attend tuition, ballet, piano and so on. Some teachers also give children a huge pile of homework. All this cuases stress. But this helps us to gain the marks we want, so it shows that it works too. I guess they do that for our own good.
ReplyDeletei change my mind. i am SERIOUSLY STRESSED by math hmwk and my tuition is driving me CRAZY!!!my tuition has TING XIE!!!!my mum now makes me study for them n i dont hv much time for playing n ACTUALLY LIVING.its like, born, FUN FUN FUN!!!start sch, die. finish sch, YAY!!!start work, AGH!!!!then, retire, finally...2 yrs ltr, v. sick, DIEING(literally)!!!!!then, suffer suffer suffer. seriously, wats the point in living??we all study hard coz we r supposed to be able to get a good job n hv lotsa lotsa money n enjoy right??but u work so much, come home straight away sleep, no time to enjoy. then wen u sick, all money gone on hospital bills n medicine. then u die. will be cremated, not even buried. n who noes if there is really a heaven?? WATS THE POINT?????????!
ReplyDeleteI am quite stressed. There is much more homework everyday.
ReplyDeletei am stressed a little.......
ReplyDeleteJing Ying, all your ur posts are a little over-the-top-block. Ya, i agree, except when i die i dont get cremated, i get buried.. by my homework....
ReplyDeletehow do you know you will get buried? Maybe you did something megabad like stealing or committing a serious crime, you would probably be simply dumped into someplace nasty.
ReplyDeleteI agree. They should give less homework
ReplyDeleteI agree they should give less homework
ReplyDeleteIt'll be much worse in secondary school.
ReplyDeleteyep
ReplyDeletei agree that we should have less homework.ifeel homework disturbs us.but i stil know that home work helps us in our studies
ReplyDeleteoh ya, i run a song advising service. Gracia, you should listen to "Another One Bites The Dust". Just don't play it when your parents are driving at high points. It'll really annoy them.... As for Jing Ying, you would probably like Pink Floyd's "Another Brick Off The Wall".....
ReplyDeleteoh yes, Jing Ying, you are correct. in hong kong, if you are rich you get a spot in the graveyard. then you have to choose if you want to be buried standing up or lying down. standing up is cheaper, as t takes up less land.... and when you get cremated in Singapore, they will take all your vital organs and donate them... so there is alot less ashes........ XD
ReplyDeleteMan! (STRESS ALERT! STRESS ALERT! Level reaching 999 999 999 999 999!)I'm gonna blow!
ReplyDeletei'm not really a fan of music, you know. And anyway, I was only trying to point out that it is not true that you will necessarily get buried all nice and clean. I'm not trying to SCARE you!
ReplyDeleteI was being SARCARSTIC..... LOL I reccomended Another One Bites The Dust as you were talking so much about death , getting buried and all that... ( to gracia's comment)
ReplyDeleteoh for heaven's sake, just because I jabbed about death doesn't mean I like to listen to some kind of bloody music!!!!!!1111!!!
ReplyDelete*breath in* SLOWLY........*breathe out*.....calm down......(and incase Juin Khai u r wondering I am talking to myself)
ReplyDeleteto juin khai. they do not take ur organs unless it is stated in ur will to do that bcoz they r afraid tat u may come bck to haunt them or something anyway tat is agnst the law n stuff. btw, just another brick in the wall doesnt evn sound like a song. n the song sucks.
ReplyDelete***i mean the song is not nice. ...
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteNO, you state in some weird form that you do not want to donate your organs or they automatically assume that you want to. Don't care about haunting. Haunting only occurs when you are dressed in a red robe holding a knife and eyeballing them.
ReplyDeleteNO!!!haunting can be following that particular person around and at times let that person see you covered in blood and such, only glimpses of you and then you disappear. Then, you talk to that person. Say, 'I'm here...' or something freaky. Then you assault that person. Well, not exactly. Like do a close-up of your bloody face in that still-living human and give him/her a real scare!! :)
ReplyDeletei'm freaky...
