Something to share with you...

The first cake with a candle was given by the restaurant. The last one was handmade. Does it look like me?

Tired...

I don't know why I have been feeling so tired and drained recently. I need to be refreshed! But, how? Hmm... I miss life as a student. You may not agree with me. But, trust me, you have to enjoy your days in school now. You may have a lot of homework and extra activities and you feel totally stressed. You will only truly understand when you start working. (I used to be very cynical when my parents told me the same thing when I was schooling :)

Have a great weekend!

Congratulations Sofia!!!

I received an email yesterday! It's great news!!!

Dear Teachers,
I'm pleased to inform you that Sofia was runner-up in the upper primary category in the above-mentioned contest. Creative Horizons, the organizer, mentioned that the contest attracted over 400 entrants from all over Singapore and Malaysia. You may remember that last year she was Champion in the middle primary category.
Of course, I do hope she'll make it a hattrick next year!!

I've attached a scan of her winning entry.

Best regards,
Mokhtar

Sofia, why don't you post your story on your blog? (It's not compulsory.)
We are all proud of you.

A Personal Grooming Checklist

Dearest...

All of you are growing up. These should come in useful soon.

Be a well-groomed lady/gentleman!

Personal Grooming Tips!

Ensure and check that

# hands and nails are clean and present an impeccable appearance.
# hair does not cover your eyes, falls neatly and framing your face, either tied up in a pony tail or chignon depending on occasion.
# make up that is neat and natural looking in the day, or with the eyes or lips enhanced for night (for ladies only)
# shoes are clean with appropriate heels.
# clothes are ironed with no stains, holes or fraying threads. Discard all faded clothing.
# lingerie should be invisible especially shoulder straps. (There's nothing funny here! This is only normal!)
# you have used some form of deodorant, perfume or mints if you need too (without emitting too strong a smell).

The power of the mind

(This is a silly post!)

I love durians! My grandparents (in-laws) own a durian plantation in Malaysia. I was given tons and tons of it during the June holidays. I kept eating non-stop. After a week, I put on 2 kg. I was worried that an overdose on durians would kill me somehow due to its super high fat and sugar content. To prevent myself from feeling guilty from all the eating, I kept telling myself that "Durians are smelly and disgusting". It works!!!I stop eating 2 days later. Wow...this is the power of the mind! Maybe, we should all tell ourselves the positive things in life daily.

  • I am unique and special. Why do I have to envy or feel inferior?
  • I can do it if I try!
  • I have a great future if I believe in it.
  • ...

I had a wonderful time at the NE show. I am always excited when I get to watch the NDP life! My favourite segment of the show is-seeing the parachutes land right before my very eyes. It's so up, close and personal.

Your blog entries...

Dear all,

Please remember to complete your work on time. It's upsetting when I realise that your blog is not updated. Those whose names have been called, get it done!

I appreciate some of your efforts in ensuring that your blogs are updated, exciting and fun. I enjoy reading them.

I realise that some of you have got face book accounts and you tried to add me as a friend. Please try again after you graduate. (By the way, aren't you too young to have an account? Isn't there an age limit?) Be careful when you are online. It's a rather dangerous place.

Take care of yourselves and stay healthy!

My Favourite Place

I used to spend most of my time outside when I was a full time student.

Now, I enjoy staying at home because the place feels so safe, cosy and peaceful. I love my new home.
After a long day at work, I look forward to going home and unwind. I'll either read a book, magazine or watch videos (at times). There are times when I'll have friends over for dinner or drinks.
I read the book on the diary of Amos in 2 hours. Some of the chapters are hiliarious. It's an easy read.
(By the way, I'm typing this during my lunch break in school. I feel so bad that this blog has not been updated. I have to plan for Semester 2. More lessonplans and resources for the Primary 5).
Are you enjoying your holidays?
Clarifications:
1. Teachers do not earn a lot!!! It's a fact!
2. The 'drinks' mentioned in my post refers to coffee, tea, soft drinks... I do not appreciate alcohol. I do not enjoy the smell, taste and aftertaste of all alcoholic drinks.
I've read most of your blogs. To those who put in effort to blog about your experiences this week, well done!
3. Gracia, I am still in school everyday from 8am to 5pm, WORKING!!!! Read my post clearly... Having friends over at my place takes place once every 3 months. Plus, teachers need a life too!

My Favourite Place...

There are many places where you spend your time. Think about a favourite place where you feel comfortable. Write about why you enjoy being there so much.

I'll upload some pictures and tell you more about my favourite place soon.

Take care! Stay healthy!

Smile...

Hey everyone,

You are not required to memorise or write a prayer. This is just for you to read, ponder and if it helps you, use it. If it doesn't, it's alright.

You are supposed to focus on your SA1 now. Don't worry about posting on your blogs. It's optional for now.

Vera, Christian and Moses have not been well. I hope they will feel better soon. Take care everyone! Take more water, fruits and have a proper diet. Germs, germs GO AWAY!!!

A Student's Prayer

Hey everyone,

I read this poem from an inspirational website today.

A Prayer Before Exams
Loving Father,
Source of all wisdom,
help me to use my time and my intelligence wisely
as I prepare for my exams.

Help me to dispose myself
to listen to Your Holy Spirit,
so that You, as my Loving Father,
may place me in a state of prayer
and lead me to understand
that the supreme wisdom
is knowing I am Your child.

Help me to remain serene
so that my work may truly reflect
this profound truth.

Mary, Mother of my spiritual life,
guide me in the ways of your Son,
so that my work may help
to transform this world for His glory.

Amen.

P5 Camp Photos

Hi, this is for those who are with me during the P5 camp. If you are interested, save the photos and I'll probably delete them after a week. It depends if there are people who violently object to have their photos on my blog.

I hope you are enjoying the long weekends!

Courtesy, Try a Little Kindness!

Channel NewsAsia - Wednesday, April 1

SINGAPORE: The Singapore Kindness Month is kicking off on April 4 and organisers want to bring their message into homes and offices.

Even though the idea of showing kindness is a simple one, organisers said it takes more than a catchy jingle to change the social habits of people.

A survey was conducted last December to find out how much weight Singaporeans gave to being kind and gracious, and how well they fared in each of these areas. The overall result was a mere 58 out of 100.

The survey also found that six in ten people, out of 500 respondents, were not too impressed with the level of social graces around them.

"As drivers, Singaporeans are rude — they take advantage, break the rules when they can, it’s a me—first attitude," one man said.

But surprisingly, most Singaporeans were not too upset over the behaviours of others in the food court. These include failing to return food trays and leaving tissue paper packets or umbrellas on seats to indicate that they have been taken.

One lady said: "’Choping’ seats with tissue paper is fine, especially in Raffles Place because everybody else is doing it — it’s like the culture here. Of course at times, it can be quite embarrassing to do that, but we really have no choice. We’re only given one hour for lunch!"
The Singapore Kindness Movement wants to get the young started on the courtesy drive.
Koh Poh Tiong, chairman, Singapore Kindness Movement, said: "We’re not perfect, but I’m an optimist. I’ve got full faith in Singaporeans. I think, generally, Singaporeans are a bit shy to be expressive.

"I noticed that when my son opened a door for a lady, some of his friends said, ’Why are you doing this?’. But if we can teach children at a very young age, it’ll become second nature to them."

The organisers hope that through celebrity ambassadors and public outreach initiatives this year, they can encourage more people to show kindness.

CNA/so

It's upsetting when I realise that courtesy is truly lacking in our society. How often do you hear 'Thank you, excuse me, sorry' ... and so on? How often do you experience people coming to you nicely to clarify a misunderstanding before they start to react negatively, throwing accusations at you?

When you come to class late, do you sneak to your seat or greet the teacher and explain the reason for your late coming before you go to your seat?

What does 'courtesy' means to you?

Let's be courteous and kind towards one another and the world will become a better place for all.

24th March 2009

Hi all,

I have been thinking what to post on this blog for weeks. There are many thoughts going on in my mind. But, I do not know what to say on this blog.

The one week holiday passes so so so fast. (Well, good times never last! Right?) I had to work almost everyday, planning, marking, reading ... Fortunately, I managed to have three days of break. I flew off to Bangkok after the Swimming Carnival. I had a great trip. It was meant to be a 'rest and relax' getaway, however, I was so anxious throughout. Due to the limited number of days, I was trying to ensure that I visited all the 'must-go' places mentioned in the travel forums and books. I was rushing from places to places and in the end, I merely see and go. I didn't spend enough time at each venue. This trip reminded me of what my pastor said, "Singaporeans are born Russians. They rush from place to place, day to day, constantly chasing after things, desires, goals, results and so on". A holiday is meant to rejuvenate a tired mind and body and I ended up feeling more tired.

What have you been doing during the holidays? (Don't mention the endless homework and/or projects)

That was the problem ... I didn't know

"Are you ...after the jewels in Dad's shop? Is that the d-delivery you were talking about?" I asked.

Quill took some thin plastic rope out of his jacket pocket before nodding. My heart sank to my toe nails at the sight of it. Dad used the same kind for wrapping parcels at home. It was thin but very strong, almost unbreakable.

"Once we get the jewels, we'll let you go. I promised," said Quil.

"And if Dad doesn't hand them over?"

"He wants you back, doesn't he?"

And the question turned my blood cold, because that was the problem. I didn't know. Dad loved his shop and his jewels. Dad always retreated to his shop when the quarrels between him and mum became too bitter. Many times I'd watched him dust the displays of gold and silver necklaces, lovingly polish the gold rings, dust off the expensive gem stones. It had actually made me feel jealous. Then I felt foolish and incredibly angry for being jealous of bits of metal and fancy glass.

The current thoughts in my mind...

I am dreaming of a White Christmas! I am still dreaming...

It's only the last day of February but I feel like I've been working for a long time since the last long break. There are so many things I want to do, but I've got limited time and money.

I wish I could travel the world. I want to visit Egypt. I want to see the pyramid, ride on a camel... I want to go to Japan for a big shopping spree. I miss the onsen. I want to return to America-factory outlets, Disneyland, Grand Canyon and many other places that I want to revisit. I want to go to Australia to visit my relatives and frolic at the beach. I want to go scuba diving at the Maldives before it disappears.

I want to have the whole day to read leisurely and do some scrap booking. There's just too many things I want to do! I have to return to reality. It's back to work. I've got tons to complete on my 'to-do' list. It never seems to be coming to an end.

5G and 5I, what are the things that you have been dreaming of? Do you wish you can have the opportunity to do many other things like me?

P5 Camp

I was rather amazed to see most of you, still, jumping around and talking, even though you had been out under the sun the whole day. The teachers were almost dead. It must be our 'AGE'! This P5 camp reminded me of my past camps when I was in school. I went through almost all that you did plus a few more, such as the flying fox. It was my favourite activity.

Some of you complained about the food and you managed to 'force' yourself to eat them. Some complained about the lack of comfort since there was no air-conditioners and mattresses, but you managed to survive the three days with minimal complaints. I must say, I am really proud of you!

The campfire was a blast! I enjoyed seeing the various groups cheering, dancing and rapping, working together as one, though the time allocated for the preparation was very short.

All of you had done well and I am sure you had lots of fun too.

Please share interesting experiences at the camp. Do not mention names of those who are involved.

What I enjoy doing...

Last year, i saw a scrapbook put together by one of my friends and I got so inspired by it. I decided to try and I got hooked! I became a 'scrapoholic'! I have completed 2 albums thus far. This hobby is really expensive and time consuming. But, at the end of the day, when I looked at my masterpiece, I felt so satisfied. I have yet to have the time to do any scrapbooking since January. I hope to be able to do something during the holidays. I have decided to upload some pictures for you.

5G and 5I, please share your hobby(ies) with all of us.

Have a nice weekend!

Happy New Year!

I am so thankful for this Chinese New Year break. It gave me time to clear piles of work and spend some quality time with my family and friends. I wish I can load some photos for you. Unfortunately, I can't find my camera. I am still waiting for some of you to send me your blog's Url.

Mixed feelings...

Judging from your comments, it seems that most of you are feeling stressed though it's only week 2. I'm concerned. It should not be.

When you feel overwhelmed, remember, the most important thing you should do, is to simply 'DO YOUR BEST'! Take one step at a time, settle the most important task on your list. This is what I have been telling myself when I realised that my 'to-do' list is never coming to an end. When desperate, depressed and helpless, then, PRAY for divine help!

I truly wish and hope that all of you will enjoy your schooling days. Enjoy the presence of your friends around you.

5 Generosity & 5 Initiative 2009

To both classes,

It's been almost 2 weeks since the first day of school. How are you feeling?

I read this comment made on an online article 'parenting network', "Today's children are experiencing a lot more stress than the generations before them because the current society is fast-paced, competitive and full of pressure.". What do you think? Do you agree? Why or why not?
